Relive the 2024 Suicide Prevention Walk
September 24, 2024 | By Emilie Jacques
The eighth annual Suicide Prevention Walk, hosted by Copper Shores and the Keweenaw Houghton Suicide Prevention Coalition, brought the community together for a profoundly moving experience. Participants gathered to connect with vital suicide prevention resources, fostering awareness and support for those affected by mental health challenges.
The event featured inspiring guest speaker Callisto Cortez, who shared insights and stories that resonated deeply with attendees. Participants walked side by side, demonstrating solidarity for individuals facing suicidal thoughts and struggles.
This year’s walk was not just a call for awareness but also a celebration of hope and healing. It served as a heartfelt tribute to the loved ones lost to suicide, creating a powerful sense of unity within the community. The gathering highlighted the importance of support, understanding and compassion in addressing mental health issues, reminding everyone that they are not alone in their struggles.
The success of the event reflects the community's commitment to fostering mental wellness and preventing suicide, paving the way for continued dialogue and support in the future.
