Copper Shores announces 18 scholarship recipients for 2024

Copper Shores Community Health Foundation is excited to award 18 scholarships to students at 10 local schools in the Copper Country. This year’s awards include a new scholarship worth up to $20,000 that was awarded to graduating seniors, Career Technical Education (CTE) scholarships in partnership with Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance, six scholarships funded by Joseph Kirkish and two by the McIntyre family. Combined, the scholarships total up to $111,000 in financial support for local students.
Copper Shores Community Health Foundation Scholarship - $5,000
This scholarship is renewable for up to four years, totaling as much $20,000 in financial award per student.

- Addison Hembroff - Houghton High School
- Rebecca Lyons - Lake Linden-Hubbell High School
- Annali Hendrickson - L’Anse High School
Copper Shores Community Health Foundation/KEDA Career Tech Scholarship - $2,000
These students are enrolled in a certificate program or an associate degree in a skilled trade or career technical education program.

- Cannon Mayo - Houghton High School
- Sara Johnson - Jeffers High School
- Amya Niemi - Chassell High School
- Brielle Kero - Hancock High School
- Dillon Maddon - Ontonagon High School
Joseph Kirkish Educational Scholarship - $2,500
Copper Shores’ intention is that recipients use the scholarship to help pay for education costs at a post-secondary school of their choosing.
- Christian Besonen - Ewen-Trout Creek High School
- Addison Hembroff - Houghton High School
Joseph Kirkish Congregational Scholarship - $2,500
These students are congregation members of St. Ignatius Loyola and/or St. Albert the Great Churches, upon request of Kirkish.
- Marino Pisani - Houghton High School
- Taryn Maki - Dollar Bay-Tamarack City High School
Joseph Kirkish Phi Kappa Tau Scholarship - $2,500
This scholarship is for two eligible Brothers of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity at Michigan Technological University, an organization that Kirkish joined during his time in school.

- Gabriel Sheahen - Michigan Technological University
McIntyre Family Educational Scholarship - $2,000
The McIntyre Family's intention is that recipients, graduating seniors from Ontonagon High School, use the scholarship to help pay for education costs at a post-secondary school of their choosing.
