Sharing the love: Subaru awards Meals on Wheels more than $2,300

May 16, 2024 | By Emilie Jacques

This is Copper Shores second year participating in Subaru’s Share the Love event

Copper Shores Meals on Wheels is grateful to receive $2,346.73 in funding from the Subaru Share the Love event in 2023. This is the second year that the foundation has participated in Share the Love, but Subaru has been working with Meals on Wheels on a national scale for nearly two decades. Since 2008, Subaru has donated more than $30 million to Meals on Wheels programs across the country.2024-05-16-SubaruShareLove---Thank-you---OL--1x1

“We deliver meals to community seniors every Monday through Friday,” said Kathleen Harter, Copper Shores Meals on Wheels program director. “To keep the food at the appropriate temperature, we use insulated bags. The funds received this year will be used to purchase new meal transport bags and repair existing bags."

For every new vehicle that is purchased or leased during the Share the Love event, Subaru donates at least $300 to a charity like Meals on Wheels. A service like Meals on Wheels goes far beyond food delivery, and Subaru recognizes the importance of companionship for those who cannot get out.

Millions of seniors face loneliness and isolation, something both Meals on Wheels and Subaru aim to mitigate. Though Meals on Wheels is largely known for its meal deliveries, the drivers also spend time talking to seniors and checking in on them during each visit.

"Subaru is an official corporate sponsor of Meals on Wheels and we are grateful to them for their financial support of our program here in the Copper Country,” said Harter.

Copper Shores Meals on Wheels looks forward to a third year of working with Subaru, delivering meals and sharing the love. Learn more about Copper Shores Meals on Wheels at coppershores.org/mealsonwheels.
