January 24, 2025 | By Emilie Jacques

Copper Shores Meals on Wheels is making Valentine’s Day a little sweeter in 2025. Between now and noon on February 10, people can order a box of homemade, handcrafted confections for someone special, or the whole family. Boxes are $25 each and can be ordered online at coppershores.org/mealsonwheels or by calling 1 (906) 483-1155.

2025-01-21-SocialGraphics-CookBoxEvent-MealsonWheels-OL-1x1-v2Confections will be ready for pickup between noon and 5 p.m. on Friday, February 14. Anyone who is currently on a delivery route and orders confections will have their boxes delivered to them with their normal meal on Friday, February 14.

Those who live or work within five miles of the Meals on Wheels kitchen, located on 821 Water St. in Hancock, may also opt for delivery for a $5 up-charge.

This Valentine’s Day fundraiser was inspired by a Meals on Wheels site in Colorado that does a cookie fundraiser each year. Their fundraiser has become a staple in their community. Copper Shores is excited to offer a similar opportunity with Meals on Wheels here in the Copper Country. This is the third year Copper Shores has done this, with the first two taking place during the holiday season. Moving forward, this fundraiser will be done near Valentine’s Day each year.

In addition to the new time of year, this year also features a smaller and more crafted box of treats. Every item has been carefully chosen and will be made in the Meals on Wheels kitchen. Meals on Wheels baking specialist Kim Cook is leading the effort, and is quite proud of this year’s offerings.

“These are a little more gourmet,” said Cook.  “We wanted something that was going to have different flavors and textures, as well as be appealing to the eye.”

Cook most enjoys the art of baking, creating something wonderful to share with others. As a professional baker and artist, she brings her skills, creativity and passion into every bite.

“Baking really falls into the art category of creating something out of nothing, and that appeals to the artist in me,” said Cook. “And who doesn't like dessert? It's fun getting feedback from people and seeing the smiles on their faces when they try something they really enjoy."

Confections included in your order:
