Meals on Wheels Holiday Cookie Fundraiser back for 2023
December 1, 2023 | By Emilie Jacques
The ordering deadline has passed.
The Holiday Cookie Fundraiser for Copper Shores Meals on Wheels is back for the second year in a row. Orders open up today, Friday, December 1, and are now being accepted through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, December 17. Boxes are $40 each and can be ordered online at coppershores.org/mealsonwheels or by calling (906) 483-1155.
Cookies will be ready for pickup between 1 and 4 p.m. on Monday, December 18 or Tuesday, December 19. All seniors who order cookies and are currently on a delivery route will have their cookies delivered to them with their normal meal on December 13.
The Cookie Fundraiser was inspired by a Meals on Wheels site in Colorado that does a cookie fundraiser each year. Their fundraiser has become a staple in their community, and Copper Shores is excited to offer a similar opportunity.
“There was a lot of enthusiasm last year and we sold out,” Meals on Wheels Program Director Kathleen Harter said. “Based on requests this year, we anticipate selling out again.”
Meals on Wheels is making some big additions this year. This year there will be a bunch of new cookies provided by local restaurants and businesses, in addition to just about doubling the amount of boxes available.
The participating businesses include Copper Scoop, Menagerie Homestead, Miner’s Cafe, Holiday Stationstores, Keweenaw Co+op, Toni’s Country Kitchen, Tadych's MarketPlace Foods, Suomi Cafe, Jen’s Kitchen and Amy J’s Pasties and Bakery.
“Last year we did it all in house,” explained Harter. “This year we are making some cookies in house and going to local businesses for support. We know they’re super busy this time of year and are so happy they’re choosing to support us in this cause. We can’t wait to taste their creations.”
Meals on Wheels delivered 96,000 meals and traveled more than 41,000 miles throughout Houghton and Keweenaw counties in the last year, in addition to offering weekly and daily congregate meal sites all over the community.
