March 2025 Menu Highlight

Written by Emilie Jacques | Feb 27, 2025 4:34:10 PM

Packed with protein

The team at Copper Shores Meals on Wheels has been working hard to create the March menu for seniors. This month, many selections feature at least one ingredient funded by the Local Food Purchase Agreement grant, including several protein offerings from the Upper Peninsula and northern Michigan.

After upgrading to a larger freezer in 2024, the team spent the remainder of last summer and fall purchasing produce and protein, storing all of it at peak freshness. Now well into winter and out of the growing season, Meals on Wheels is still able to provide local ingredients nearly every day.

The March menu includes several different meals with locally or regionally sourced protein, such as:

  • March 3: Lamb stew, whole wheat rolls and a fruit cup, with lamb from Buried Stone Farms
  • March 7: Fresh fish, ancient grains, vegetables and pineapple delight, with fish from Peterson’s Fish Market
  • March 19: Roast bison dinner, mashed potatoes, vegetables and cucumber salad, with bison from Circle K Ranch
  • March 27: Sweet and sour pork, rice, stir fry vegetable and jello, with pork from Buried Stone Farms

Meals on Wheels has been delighted to expand the menu options and try new recipes while supporting small businesses and boosting the local economy. To help Meals on Wheels continue feeding seniors locally sourced ingredients, consider becoming a one-time or monthly donor. Donations can be made at coppershores.org/donate.
