August 2024 Menu Highlight
July 29, 2024 | By Emilie Jacques
Copper Shores Meals on Wheels is delighted to announce that every single day of August 2024 will feature at least one menu item, if not more, grown or raised within 400 miles of the kitchen. In the fall of 2023, Meals on Wheels was awarded a $1.28 million grant from the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program.
Throughout 2024, Meals on Wheels has been building partnerships with farmers, producers, and growers from across the Copper Country and surrounding area to bring in locally grown food and locally raised meat for the seniors. Food comes in fresh and is processed quickly, thanks to new kitchen equipment purchased with funding from the LFPA grant.
Some of the meals that seniors will receive this month include:
- August 9: Fresh local fish from Peterson’s Fish Market, ancient grains, and a vegetable medley.
- August 13: A fiesta chicken salad with greens from Ghost House Farm, and yogurt parfait.
- August 19: Honey mustard chicken with honey from Hilbert’s Honey Co., rice, coleslaw and fruit.
- August 29: Bison pot roast with bison from Circle K Buffalo Ranch, vegetables, and a whole wheat roll.
With LFPA funded ingredients coming from all directions, the kitchen staff have been excited to try new recipes and improve the quality of the menu. As the year continues, Meals on Wheels aims to strengthen its community partnership and bring even more locally sourced ingredients into the menu. Uphold the longevity of Meals on Wheels by donating today. Visit coppershores.org/mealsonwheels.
