Vada is a charismatic and passionate community member who has been working tirelessly to educate our community about the contributions that Anna Clemenc made to our local community and the U.S Labor Movement. Vada feels strongly that "Big Annie" needs to be remembered and honored and does not want our community to forget her legacy. Vada brought this community project idea forward to the Keweenaw Area Community Foundation which is working with Vada and a volunteer advisory committee to fundraise for a statue to be created and placed in the Village of Calumet. Vada has been donating large amounts of time and her own labor to be at many local events spreading the word and encouraging the community to support this initiative. You may have seen her at the 4th of July, Bridgefest, Pastyfest, Watercross or a variety of other events. It is clear that Vada is on a mission to educate, advocate and honor a local heroine. We appreciate all the passion and hard work that Vada brings to this project.
